Tybalt, Prince of Cats

Cousin to Juliet, Tybalt is an aggressive man who is the main attack dog for the Capulet family. As a rebellious man he can be diagnosed with Antisocial Personality Disorder. The first clue to this diagnosis is how Tybalt is constantly in trouble with the law; three times in fact according to the Prince of Verona.

Reckless Disregard for saftey of Self and Others

Irritable and Aggressive

Throughout the play Tybalt is constantly being the aggressor to others in the play. He is always looking for a fight with the Montague family or their friends. Here Tybalt is challenging Mercutio to a fight over something as petty as words. In fact he isn't even giving Mercutio the option to not fight. Tybalt is telling him he has to fight.

“You shall find me apt enough to that, sir, and you will give me the occasion.” (III.i. 42-43)

While Tybalt was alive he constantly confronted others and wanted to fight them. He did not care if he hurt them and didn't even think he could be hurt in a fight.

“Boy, this shall not excuse the injuries that thou hast done me; therefore turn and draw.” (III.i.67-68)

“Thou wretched boy, that didst consort him here, shalt with him hence.” (III.i. 132-135)

Lack of Remorse

Like most people with antisocial personality disorder, these individuals have trouble feeling sympathy for others. Due to this lack of empathy, it is easier for these types of people to hurt another without feeling remorse. At the party Tybalt even says he would kill Romeo without a second thought.

“Dares the slave come hither, covered with an antic face, to fleer and scorn our solemnity? Now, by the stock and honor of my kin, to strike him dead I hold it not a sin.” (I.v. 57-61)
